Weaving the narratives from Mythology and Renaissance paintings with the historical tropes of the classical female forms they portray, I reimagine these conventions. With female forms typically by the male gaze for the male gaze and I am reclaiming the female body image by depicting it through a different lens, and portraying women representing themselves without fearing criticism.
All women are subject to unrealistic and somewhat unattainable expectations placed on them. As some women often feel the weight of these expectations more acutely, it is crucial that we empathise, support, and empower them to celebrate the diversity of real women
Siusan graduated from Glasgow School of Art in 2019 with a BA(Hons) in Fine Art. Her large-scale figurative paintings are an exuberant take on the female form, playfully incorporating contemporary narratives with mythological and historical representations. Siusan is the recipient of the Royal Scottish Academy 195th Annual exhibition SABA award 2021.
