A lot of my work recently has revolved around books, ones that I like and am affected by. I’ve found it’s a way of increasing the scope, the reach of a painting. Brought into a situation, with other books or objects, they enter into a conversation with each other. It’s also a way of paying homage to what’s inside their covers. In a world overwhelmed by images, painting is a way of slowing down, staying in the moment, of dwelling on things important to oneself.
I studied Fine Art at Middlesex Polytechnic, London and then completed a Masters Degree in Fine Art at Temple University, Philadelphia. I worked as a Lecturer in Fine Art at the University of Toronto, was the art teacher at Summerhill School, Suffolk and also an art facilitator at HM Prison Blundeston in Suffolk. Since 2002 I have lived in Berwick upon Tweed.
