Imagery within the work is generated from a variety of sources including memory, photography, television, film, drawings and art history. Always loosely autobiographical however, the work references significant areas of my life, from domestic activity, work, relationships and sexuality. My paintings are concerned with a continued experimentation and often move towards abstraction with paint being applied and removed in equal measure.Michael Clarence lives and works in Glasgow. He has studied painting and sculpture at Gray’s School of Art in Aberdeen and The Glasgow School of Art.
