UnspokenConcrete poem interpreted from Shetland Tabu Glossary, A1 print onto cotton rag£300 + Estimated shipping cost £60Producing mainly abstract architectural forms, I play with light, shadow and reflection; using an experimental process paired with traditional materials and techniques. My work translates qualities such as patina, liminality and imperfection to into clay, concrete poetry and photography. I integrate words and meaning such as Robert MacFarlane's glossaries that describe landscape to form a narrative layer to respond to. I am continually developing my methods of model and plaster mould making, combining digital modelling, printing, cutting and hand-drawing, balancing complexity with functionality.Born in Glasgow, Janice studied Architecture and moved to Asia, completing a PhD at the University of Hong Kong, discovering ceramics while on maternity leave.
To strengthen her self-taught practice, she undertook an MA Ceramics at Bath School of Art, graduating 2020, and is a based at Glasgow Ceramics Studio.
