In my studio practice I explore the idea of the ‘book’ as a functional object and container and in abstract form in my artist books. I have always been especially drawn to developing the themes of ‘transformation’ and ‘abstraction’ of the book and it's cover or box as an object and container for a visual narrative researched and related to buildings and the built environment. The work is always site specific. My process based contemporary practice explores the craft of bookbinding and artist books, printmaking, photography and large scale paper chromatography.
I studied at Edinburgh College of Art for a BArch and Diploma of Architecture and practised as an Architect in Edinburgh until 2008. Since then I have completed my MA in Contemporary Art Practice and a CofHE in Art & Design. I work as a freelance artist and designer from my home studio in Maxton, near Melrose in the Scottish Borders.
