Ross primarily creates sculptural works and architectural ceramics. Her practice combines an interest in elemental forces, currents and pressures with investigations of material and process. She works with the energy of materials, to create a dialogue in which the material has the last word and elemental forces are always at play. Using poured porcelain over moulds, a process originally devised for repeatability, Ross creates and captures unrepeatable gestures. Ross’ sculptural work sets up oppositions of flow and stasis, lightness and weight, control and spontaneity. The intention is to create a kinetic and sensuous connection to the work in the viewer.
