Cara’s practice explores the relationship between the digital and physical realm. Growing up in the ‘digital age’, childhood memories of play are associated with retro videogame consoles, and technology has provided us with needed escapism during the recent pandemic. Having graduated during this time, Cara investigates how we can utilise technology to generate joy.
Cara uses digital tools like rendering and coding to generate imagery, and 3D printing software to materialise concepts. She combines new methods with traditional methalsmithing to form wearable sculpture that can be constructed together by hand, keeping play a key element of the work.
Cara Lowe is a contemporary designer with a playful approach to jewellery. She is currently based at The Glasgow School of Art as Artist in Residence, after graduating in 2021 with an Honours degree in Silversmithing & Jewellery Design.
