I am fascinated by books and story-telling. I use second-hand books, and their built-in history is the attraction for me. The personal handling of the materials is important to me. The books contain traces of the past – fingerprints, skin, dedications, scribbled notes – which offer us a glimpse into their earlier life. I de-construct the books, and make them into new structures, which still contain their original history, but which now have a new visual form. I am intrigued by the memories particular texts hold for us. When stories are told, and continue to be retold through generations, they are not forgotten.

Jo is a Scottish Visual Artist, based in Edinburgh.

She graduated from Edinburgh College of Art with a BA (Hons) and MFA in Tapestry.

She was short-listed for The Cordis Trust Prize for Tapestry (2021/2015), received two Hope Scott Trust Awards (2019/ 2013), and granted a Creative Scotland Professional Development Award (2013).
