View on a Wall
I work from memory as well as cropped images. I am motivated by themes of immersion and invitation, creating a narrative using elements that have significance — points of connection that are derived from recognition. I set stages and choreograph its inhabitants. The challenge is working out that balancing act — creating a world where figures cannot exist without the space and the space cannot exist without the figures. In fairytales I saw potential in bringing about magical transformations, giving hope for a brighter future. People of Ukraine and Russia are connected by the same fairytales, by culture and blood. Some fairytales are horrifying. Starting this war was a crime committed by the blind chauvinists, who are consumed by disinformation and who have fallen into an ideological abyss. Peace will come at a great cost and I hope we will not fall into the Dark Ages. I urge you to research, to think for yourself, to seek out the truth. The truth is the main weapon in this war.
