Ailsa’s work explores how the materiality of our everyday affects our lives.
Her wearable objects consider the potential and preciousness of touching, wearing and
using everyday objects to enhance and celebrate the quality of our connection to self and
others.
The pieces she makes catch, anticipate or provoke fleeting, instinctive, subconscious
moments of connection - those that are sometimes difficult to grasp because they rush past,
over before we are even aware that they are happening - shaking a hand, waking up ………
Gently activist, she encourages and prompts us to consider what jewellery is and how we
wear it.
Graduating in 2018 from Glasgow School of Art Ailsa was awarded the art school’s Chairman’s Medal for Design. Following graduation she continued at GSA, firstly completing two years as an Artist in Residency and then as a Visiting Tutor in 2020-21. She is currently completing a Masters of Research at GSA School of Innovation, supported by a grant from the Digital Health & Care Institute of Scotland.
Her work is exhibited internationally and her first solo show was selected in 2021 for the Radiant Pavilion Biennial, Melbourne.
