Ailsa’s work explores how the materiality of our everyday affects our lives.
Her wearable objects consider the potential and preciousness of touching, wearing and
using everyday objects to enhance and celebrate the quality of our connection to self and
others.
The pieces she makes catch, anticipate or provoke fleeting, instinctive, subconscious
moments of connection - those that are sometimes difficult to grasp because they rush past,
over before we are even aware that they are happening - shaking a hand, waking up ………
Gently activist, she encourages and prompts us to consider what jewellery is and how we
wear it.
Graduating in 2018 from The Glasgow School of Art Ailsa was awarded the Chairman’s Medal for Design and has been exhibited internationally since. Her first solo show was selected for the 2021 Radiant Pavilion Biennial, Melbourne. Supported by the Digital Health & Care Institute of Scotland Ailsa is currently pursuing a Masters of Research at GSA School of Innovation.
